Welcome to the latest in news and catch reports from around our area with the odd sprinkling of news from other parts of the uk for good measure.
It seems by the forecast that the promise of better warmer weather is on the horizon which will perhaps improve all of our catch rates...Fingers crossed.
Alan Blair and Mike Hall from Nash Tackle did a short session on the Grand Union Canal and had a 20lb+ mirror and an upper double common using Nash Amber Strawberry boilies.
Its been a good week at Woodlands with one angler claiming to have caught 22 tench and some carp. Bailiff Peter Brown had 6 commons, a mirror and 4 tench in just two hours followed by 5 commons, 2 tench and a bream the following day in another couple of hours. Alan Taylor had a good mixed bag from peg 4 with some quality roach on chopped worm and caster on a short pole line before the resident carp bullied the roach away. Tony Bliss from Ampthill landed 11 bream, 5 tench, 2 carp and 2 good roach on pellet.
On the South Lagoon at Wyboston its silver fish a plenty with large bags of roach, skimmers and bleak commonplace. Simon Chalkley targetted the carp from peg 28 and was rewarded with commons of 24lb 4oz, 22lb 8oz, 14lb 6oz, 12lb 6oz, plus a 5lb bream and a 1lb 8oz roach which took a liking to his boilie.
Over at the adjacent North House Lake Darren Walton used his unusual Baby Octopus and Peanut Butter homemade boilies to tempt commons of 26lb 2oz and 24lb 6oz.
Shane Welch was also at North House and bagged mirrors of 17lb 6oz and 15lb 9oz on Innovate pine-n-tric hairaisers over chopped s2t steamies. Harvie Millier also managed a common of 25lb 1oz.
16 yr old Ashley Phelan has been catching some superb carp at North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex and has sent me pictures of a common which tipped the scales at 34lb 3oz and a mirror of 25lb 10oz.
Ian Waller (Boggie) boasts another successful days snottie (BREAM) fishing ,largest around 7lb smallest about 5lb although he states he was after the carp all caught on a new boilie we are testing...SHHHH!!!! Kevin Jefferies was also on North House tempting a 32lb common on S2t.
The 24 hour carp match is to be fished at Beckerings Reservoir on 12th & 13th June with over £440 of prizes provided by Jag Products, Nash Tackle, CC Moore, Fishing Wizard and Browns Angling Centre Leighton Buzzard. Details of how to book your place can be found in the Luton AC Newsletter out now.

Young Ashley Phelan has banked another fantastic fish this time the 16 year old caught a 33lb 14oz common and added a few 20's in just one day.
Also on North House Robert Langdon targetted the lakes big bream and managed one of 9lb 6oz. North House has had an otter fence installed to protect its valuable stock which has proved to be a sound investment as a nearby water has lost several large carp to otters in recent weeks. On the adjacent South Lagoon numerous bream have been caught by carp anglers with one having 18 over 6lb and another catching 9 up to 8lb. No zander reports this week from the Lagoon with the only predator report from Andy Mott who had an 8lb pike.
At Woodlands Jim Badgery had a fantastic evening session on Wednesday amassing 30lb 11oz of fish in 3 1/2 hours! Jim's catch included 7 tench to 4lb 3oz, 2 carp to 4lb 13oz and 2 bream. A mixture of sweetcorn and flavoured meat were the winning baits. Jim fished 2 pole lines alternating between an open water line and a line tight to the far bank trees at around 10m. Dave Farmer also fished an evening session on Thursday this week, and fished the waggler with double corn as hookbait, and a handful of pellets as feed. He was rewarded with a number of bream and tench. The biggest bream was estimated by Damon the bailiff to be over 4lbs.
Members are reminded by Damon the bailiff to securely close the entry gate and to lock it. The carpark gate should be closed and locked by the last person leaving the carpark.
The canal continues to fish well with plenty of bream to 4lb being caught as well as countless double figure carp.
Craig Gibson caught a fantastic 15lb 10oz zander from the South Lagoon on the Wyboston Complex using a deadbait. On the nearby North House Lake 16yr old Ashley Phelan has sent me the pictures of his 33lb 14oz common a fish known as the 'Lobe Tailed Common'. This is the second largest common reported from the lake with Ashley catching the largest one known as the 'Big Common' at 34lb 3oz just a couple of weeks ago. This is the second largest common reported from the lake with Ashley catching the largest one known as the 'Big Common' at 34lb 3oz just a couple of weeks ago. On the Grand Union Canal I watched carp topping 20lb spawning at the weekend.
Earlier in the week Michael Smith used A2D Baits spicy crab and mussel boilies to catch an 18lb 15oz mirror and commons of 14lb & 12lb. Many other double figure carp have been caught including a 14.5lb fish which was expertly landed by an angler using just 2lb bs line and a size 18 hook. Anglers at the Globe are enjoying good sport using meat as bait. Good size perch continue to grace anglers nets with the best reported this week being a 2lb 6oz specimen from below Grove Church.
Luton AC has invested over £20,000 in stocking and fisheries improvement work during 2009. This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties that took place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices will remain unchanged for the coming season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months. It is hoped that the new Barretts Mere on the Tingrith Complex will be open for fishing on 7th June.
Charlie Riddock from Luton increased his personal best common to 29lb with the capture of the Parrot Common from North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex. Successful bait was a Mainline Cell pop-up. At the same venue Kevin Jefferies is averaging 2-3 20lbers a session on S2t. K McKenna tempted a 16lb common, Ian Becson a 25lb 5oz common and Michael Evans a 6lb tench.

David Hyne fished Beckerings Reservoir catching bream of 7lb & 8lb plus a mirror carp of 16lb 14oz. On the canal following a complaint from a member of the public anglers are reminded to be discreet if they need to attend the call of nature as homeowners and boat owners etc do not wish to see this and it could lead to your prosecution for indecent exposure or a public order offence if the police were to be called.

Good news for the silver fish anglers amongst us it appears that the float only meadow lake will be open for the coming weekend (15th-16th) after intensive work and a comprehensive stocking campaign all systems are go... Or very nearly !!! The banks have been cleared with newly built platforms added and easy access to the swims, all snags have been removed from the waters edge and new shrubbery planted to help improve the overall experience for the anglers day on the water. A good stock of carp, roach and rudd have been added to the original stock much of which is still a mystery but with signs of movement before the stocking you can be assured of a good days fishing and at £7.50 it is a steal. Contact Innovates for more information and details of bookings.
The Meadows lake is now available to fish with the first visitor having 35 carp in a few hours before the sun got the best of him!
On the Willows Nathan Clemence had yet another 20lber on S2T, Luke Knibbs took 3 upper doubles on S2t and Innovates own Gary Wescott had 2 up to 18lb while Paul Northwood caught 4 on a overnighter with most members now catching. Meanwhile over on Orchard lake one angler took a fine brace of 20s with all anglers catching fish ranging from 10lb to 20lb+. Spawning on all lakes has been evident this week due the rapid rise in heat with shoals of fish happily splashing away undisturbed by any passing angler
